Hi, There;
My name is Jessica Thompson and I am a Toronto-based audio artist. I will
be presenting a portable audio piece entitled soundbike at Art Interactive
this Fall, as part of Glowlab¹s Open Lab Series
(http://www.artinteractive.org/upcoming_events.php) and was wondering if I
could get some advice concerning a group art activity/bike ride.
soundbike is a portable sound piece that uses motion-based mini-generators
mounted to an ordinary bicycle to broadcast the sound of laughter as the
bike moves through the urban environment. As part of my residency, I would
like to run an Open Lab where members of the public would be invited to
bring their bikes, horns, bells, playing cards, radios and other noisemakers
for an afternoon of collaborative tinkering culminating in a short, but
noisy, soundride in the the area.
I am wondering if any of you would be able to advise me on any potential
legal issues that I should be aware of. Do I need to work with local
authorities to do this? Do I need a permit? Is the relationship between
the cycling community and the police generally amicable? Is there anything
else I need to know?
Thanks in advance for your assistance and please let me know if you have any
questions or need any further information.
Cheers,
Jessica Thompson
