Kick back with fellow cyclists, and enjoy free beer from Harpoon Brewery and
goodies from the Blue Frog Bakery. Join us after work from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at
the Harpoon Brewery, 306 Northern Avenue, Boston (near Harborlights, in the
Marine Industrial Park—you can take the Silver Line). This is your chance to
spread the word about MassBike—get in free when you bring a friend and
introduce them to bike advocacy! Regular suggested donation is $5-$10.

Register for MassBike Bicycling Skills Courses—Newburyport and Waltham in
August



Would you like to learn how to ride more confidently in traffic? MassBike
has scheduled several Bicycling Skills courses this summer, including
classes in Newburyport (August 3 and 6) and Waltham (August 11 and 13). Our
courses will build confidence and teach important safety skills and tips for
commuting, charity rides, and recreational riding.


The regular cost of the course is $50, and there is a special $40 discounted
rate for members of MassBike, Charles River Wheelmen, and participants in
the Mass Red Ribbon Ride and the MS rides.

Redbones Tour de France Bike Breakfasts: Tuesday, July 12 and Tuesday, July
19


Join MassBike, NEMBA, and the Hub on Wheels Festival as we lead fun rides
starting at Redbones (55 Chester St., Davis Square, Somerville) at 7:00 a.m.
sharp. We'll ride for two hours (rides are free!) and then repair to
Redbones to watch the Tour de France and enjoy a hearty breakfast ($5).
Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced rides will be offered; helmets
required.

“Charles River Connections” Lunchtime Walk Co-Sponsored by MassBike: Wed.,
July 13



WalkBoston, MassBike, the Charles River Conservancy, and the Charles River
Watershed Association invite you to walk with us on Wednesday, July 13 to
see the connections that are needed to complete the pathway network of the
new Charles River Basin. WalkBoston will lead a walk, from 12-1 pm, to view
the sites of the three proposed bicycle/pedestrian bridges that would
complete the network, and are part of the Big Dig mitigation agreement. Two
of these bridges may fall prey to current Big Dig funding priorities. All
three bridges deserve your support. Join us to help make sure that these
critical pedestrian/bike connections get built. Meet on Causeway Street in
front of the North Station T.

Federal Advocacy Action Alert: Help the Transportation Bill



The U.S. House and Senate have both passed the long-awaited Transportation
Bill, and they are working out differences between their versions of the
bill. We want “the best of both bills” for bicycling advocacy. After reading
the one-page informational document below, please call or email Senators
Kerry and Kennedy, plus your Congressman, and urge them to support one or

Three Fun Bicycling Events



Monthly Recreational Rides, co-sponsored by MassBike. The Hub on Wheels bike
festival, slated for September 25 in Boston, is hosting monthly rides in the
city to gear up. The next ride is Sunday, July 10: “The Cooling Sea: Along
the Beaches and Through the Docks.” Departs 9:30 a.m. from the rear
 “Giraffe” entrance of the Franklin Park Zoo, Boston. For more information,

Saturday Afternoon Weekly Bike Rides from Belmont Wheelworks: Please join
the members of the Verizon Wireless Wheelworks cycling team for a weekly 90
minute ride through the hills (and flats) of Boston’s western suburbs. This
easy-paced ride is geared toward beginners, returnees, and anyone interested
in a leisurely Saturday afternoon ride. We’ll show you great loops through
Belmont, Weston, Wellesley and Concord, teach a few riding and safety tips,
and generally have a good time. No one will get left behind! The rides run
Saturday afternoons at 2pm, June 25th – August 28th, (weather permitting).
All rides depart from Belmont Wheelworks, 480 Trapelo Road, Belmont MA,

shop owner Rustem & trainer Bobby Mac for hands-on bike assistance,
socializing with other participants, pizza and a brew! Bring your bike.

East Coast Greenway Alliance Seeks Trail Program Coordinator



The East Coast Greenway Alliance, the non-profit organization spearheading
development of a Maine to Florida urban trail system, seeks a highly
motivated program manager to serve as our trail program coordinator. This
position carries system-wide responsibility for getting the Greenway
substantially built, designated and signed by 2010.  Positions located in
Wakefield, RI. Qualifications include bachelor’s degree and minimum four
years of professional project or program management experience. Salary
commensurate with experience; good benefit package. Starts mid to late
August. Interested candidates should send a cover letter (attn:  Karen
Votava, Executive Director) detailing their interest and qualifications with
