Oh, yeah, another important factor of Amsterdam's good quality of
(bicycling) life is the policy of educating every single citizen in
bicycle driving as part of the (excellent!) public school education. 
This effectively eliminates traffic problems caused by ignorance, and
it creates an atmosphere where bicycling is seen as an officially
sanctioned transportation choice.
