I wish I had the same luck and the $200 bucks back that it required to make the change. 9 miles per day, 14 months and CRUNCH. Now the mountain bike is set up as a bad weather commuter with a freewheel single-speed, and everything is cool.
I loved it while it worked, but I don't want to spend 100 bucks every 14 months to change the cartridge. I guess results may vary.

I've had great success with Nexus hubs. I have one on a Van Dessel Superfly I ride at the moment, and it is flawless, and Skunk from SCUL has used them for years in his primary thrusters on ships such as this one which weights > 130lbs without rider, and gets ridden > 15 miles most days.

I don't know about Harris Cyclery, but I would be cautious of Sheldon Brown's information. He was way off on internal hubs. I interpreted the article as a recommendation of the Shimano 7-speed system. Having experienced the Nexus, I would not recommend it to anyone who rides more than 12 miles a year.

Is harris cyclery really good? That guy claims to be all about fixed
gears and single speeds and stuff, but is it worth the trip out there?
